2017 Mopar Uconnect Convergence

Uconnect is the division of Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) that supports connected vehicles. Mopar is the division of FCA that provides service, parts, and accessories for vehicle owners. At the start of 2017 our team began the task of bringing connected features that are currently offered through the Uconnect app into the Mopar Owner’s Companion app.
As the lead designer on the project I led strategy sessions between Uconnect, Mopar and our company. We worked with both teams to prioritize key features for the near term, and to understand the future objectives and plans of Uconnect. With a product roadmap at hand, and all stakeholders goals communicated, we created a revised site map. My team ran a feature prioritization study among a group of users to gauge the desirability of features between the two apps. Additionally, we created a prototype and executed usability testing to validate the proposed structure of the combined apps. We compiled key takeaways from our research and aligned on a path forward with Mopar and Uconnect.
In the design phase our team worked closely with Uconnect’s development team and followed detailed business rules to create a production-ready product.
Merging Two Apps
This project entailed bringing the connected features that Uconnect users enjoy to the Mopar Owner’s Companion App, creating one seamless ownership app. We worked closely with Mopar and Uconnect stakeholders to rework the app map to include near term features, as well as placing features slated for the next several years.
Dashboard Iterations
In merging Mopar Owner’s Companion with the Uconnect app, we had to create a dashboard that didn’t depart too far from the current Mopar app but put a lot of visibility on connected features. These screens show some of the various layouts we worked through.
Commands & Smart Watch Integration
Users can start their vehicle, lock their vehicle, start their charging cycle and more from the commands tab. We additionally updated Apple Watch designs to fit with the Mopar design scheme.
Adding a Fifth Tab
The locations tab is new to the Mopar app entirely. In creating an experience tailored for Mopar users we merged features from the existing Mopar app like “Find a Dealer” with Uconnect features such as locate your vehicle, send directions, or save favorites.
